Omega 7 (DHV 2-3)

Omega protos have had great successes in competition so far including a clean sweep of the Swiss Championships, the German Championships, the 2006 Brazilian PWC, and of course the overall 2005 PWC titles in both men's and women's categories. Then the final pre-production prototype was flown by Chrigel Maurer on a 248km FAI triangle to prove the design. The production version is now at certification and is expected to pass at DHV 2/3 in all sizes. There is an additional size this year to narrow the weight ranges and offer more overlap.

Performance is very close to that of the comp versions with a claimed top speed of 58kph and a glide of 10:1. Stability at high speed is of course a concern and this is answered in large part by the high arc design which helps increase tension in the leading edge. Another change for this generation is the use of new Liros unsheathed lines on the suspension system. Though unsheathed, the lines are specially coated for resistance to abrasion and UV damage. The coating is also claimed to reduce tangling. The third innovation in the design is the use of a special new coated nylon for the leading edge area on the upper sail. Traditionally the area of the glider both the most prone to wear and also the most sensitive to increased porosity, Advance now build this section from an exclusive coated nylon with increased durability. The new material, developed with Porcher, is no heavier than the standard grade used on the rest of glider, so no weight penalty in incurred. This allows the glider's lifespan to be lengthened considerably.

The pilot profile is again advanced cross-country pilots as well as the competition heroes. There is more information available on Advance's website.
